Weekly Athletics Update

Varsity Field Hockey recorded their 7th consecutive win on the young season with a pair of impressive wins over the Winsor School on Wednesday and at Dana Hall on Friday. Arie Erlich ’26 notched the game winner on Friday and game MVP, Sophia Ha excelled throughout the contest. Wednesday’s 6-3 victory was punctuated by Mia Harris’ “hat trick”, two goals by Arie Erlich and solid defensive work from game MVP, Kylie Beers ’24. St. George’s School will provide the next test for the team on Wednesday in Middleton, RI. Game time is 4:00 pm.
 
Football rolled past Austin Prep in Reading, Ma on Saturday as the defensive effort was superb. The team has not allowed a touchdown in either of the last two contests and will look to put that streak to a test on Saturday afternoon (3:30 pm at Morse) when they host St. Luke’s School. Jojo Uga had another impressive outing with 151 “all-purpose” yards and the offense under senior signal caller, Charlie Arvanigian has found its collective stride.
 
Girls’ Varsity soccer registered a 1-0 win at NMH on Saturday as junior striker, Savannah Nevins scored a late game winner on a PK. Annie Rhodes ’27 registered her 1st career shutout helping to secure the victory. The team now has a week to prepare for Saturday’s road trip to Dexter-Southfield School with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 noon.
 
On the boys’ side of the ledger, goals were hard to come by in two competitive road contests, both ending in 1-1 ties. On Wednesday the team travelled to Loomis-Chaffee School and secured the draw with a 2nd half tally. A return trip to the Nutmeg state on Saturday saw the game venue shift to the Miss Porter’s School and a match with the always physical Avon Old Farms squad. WA will look to Wednesday’s home date with Exeter to get their offense in gear!
 
Varsity Volleyball dropped both away contests during the week, falling in close matches to both Wilbraham & Monson and Suffield Academy and will look to get on track on Wednesday when they travel to the Pomfret School. Game time is scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
 
Crew raced in the 2nd regatta of the Fall season at Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday morning and times continue to improve. The boys’ V1 boat was especially adept on the water in the early morning race setting the stage for an enjoyable day of competition. The team will now have a week to prepare for Sunday’s race, the George Dirth Regatta in New Hampshire.
 
Cross Country braved the wind and cold temperatures on Saturday as they travelled to Wilbraham & Monson for a tri-meet. Ella Budzinski ’25 had an outright 1st place finish on the girls’ side and teammates, Annalise Peters (7th) and Melanie Rosenthal (9th) secured top 10 finishes for the team. The boys’ split their races with Cheshire (L) and Wilbraham (W) with Cavan Gardner, Harry Martel, and Aidan Gafford leading the surge for WA.
 
JV boys’ soccer saw their overall record dip to 2-3 with a pair of road losses to Loomis and Pomfret. The team travels to W & M on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm match.
 
JV Volleyball dropped close matches to Suffield and W & M during the week and will look to rebound on Wednesday when they travel to Pomfret for a 3:00 pm match.
 
Middle school teams fared well during the week as Football defeated Moses Brown, co-ed soccer ran their record to 3-0 with a pair of high scoring wins and Volleyball secured their 1st win of the year over the Rectory School.
